Numbers Ahoy is an educational DVD that teaches kids math skills. Tad and Lily, who you may recognize as the main froggy characters from LeapFrog, are playing a game together when they realize that the need stronger math skills to finish the game. Their adorable firefly friend, Edison, comes to the rescue and takes Tad and Lily, along with their puppy Scout, on a magical journey - under the sea! Scout gets himself captured by - GASP! - a pirate! - and Tad and Lily must use their mathematical knowledge to rescue Scout! Will they succeed before it's too late?
This DVD is geared towards the ages 3 to 6 crowd, and it helps kids learn number recognition, counting, and estimation. Kids ages 4 to 5 will probably get the most out of this one, although if your child is struggling in math, even older kids will probably learn from those catchy songs that LeapFrog is known for. (It certainly can't hurt!) Even though it says for ages 3 to 6, two year olds will also benefit from the number recognition and counting parts - and again, those catchy songs. (We need all the math help we can get around here, it's never been my strong point either!)
It contains some bonus features including short vowel shorts, and fun music video featuring Scout "Being a Puppy", and a preview of The Amazing Alphabet Amusement Park. There is also a short curriculum commentary for us parents to sit down and watch before viewing this DVD with our children. As with all LeapFrog titles, I recommend viewing them the first with your children, so you can help answer questions and guide them.
